I have now been to almost every major city in the Untied States, and I’m here to tell you about some of the best U.S. cities that you need to explore for yourself. From the sunny beaches of San Diego to the vibrant streets of New York City, each destination offers a unique and memorable experience. Here are my top recommendations and why these cities stand out from the rest!
10. Nashville, Tennessee
As the Music City of the United States, Nashville draws music enthusiasts from around the globe. This city has such a welcoming atmosphere, friendly people, and rich musical heritage. Trying Nashville hot chicken—a local delicacy–is an absolute must. Explore honky-tonks on Broadway and iconic music venues to see why Nashville offers a experience that stands out.
9. San Diego, California
San Diego, located on the coast of Southern California, is renowned as “America’s Finest City.” With its picturesque beaches, perfect weather, and laid-back vibe, it offers a relaxing escape from the bustling cities. There are many must-visit spots like Balboa Park, Seaport Village, and the Italian neighborhood of Little Italy, known for its delicious cuisine. I adore this city and the lifestyle that it offers, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself moving here one day.
8. Chicago, Illinois
Next on the list is Chicago, situated on the shore of Lake Michigan. This place has a seriously impressive skyline, endless things to do, and incredible deep-dish pizza. Spend time in the Windy City by exploring iconic landmarks such as Cloud Gate, Navy Pier, and indulging in the city’s famous deep-dish pizza.
7. Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston is one of the few U.S. cities that has kept it’s charm and uniqueness. Forget tall, gray, modern skyscrapers and step back in time to wander through the cobblestone streets of historic Charleston. This Southern gem exudes old-world charm with its antebellum architecture, quaint shops, and award-winning restaurants. Explore the city’s rich history at sites like Fort Sumter or relax on the pristine beaches of nearby barrier islands. I absolutely fell in love with this colorful city!
6. Los Angeles, California
Venturing to the entertainment hub of the U.S., Los Angeles offers a blend of glamour and natural beauty. Visit must-see attractions like the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, and the picturesque beaches of Malibu. Indulging in In-N-Out Burger and exploring the vibrant neighborhoods complete the LA experience.
5. Savannah, Georgia
Much like Charleston, Savannah has a historic charm and distinct European influence that makes it truly stand out from other U.S. cities. Stroll through Forsyth Park, admire the Spanish moss-covered trees, and explore the city’s well-preserved architecture. From historic landmarks to scenic riverfronts, Savannah offers a delightful blend of history and culture.
4. San Francisco, California
Known for the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and eclectic neighborhoods, San Francisco beckons with its unique charm. I recommend enjoying sunset views at the Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point and embarking on a scenic sailboat ride around the bay. Unfortunately I did not plan ahead, and Alcatraz Island remains a missed opportunity. Make sure to book ahead to ensure a visit to Alcatraz!
3. New York City, New York
A melting pot of cultures, New York City enthralls visitors with its diverse neighborhoods and iconic landmarks. Spend time exploring Central Park, Times Square, and the historic Brooklyn Bridge for a quintessential NYC experience. From cultural attractions to historical sites, the city offers a dynamic and immersive journey.
2. Denver, Colorado
Concluding his list, Denver is one of my personal favorite cities in the U.S. Nestled close to the Rockies, Denver boasts a vibrant outdoor scene and a thriving craft beer culture. Visitors can explore Rocky Mountain National Park, marvel at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and savor the local brews at various breweries, embodying the city’s active and laid-back lifestyle.
1. St. Petersburg, Florida
Okay, so maybe I’m a little biased with this one since I now live here, but that’s exactly why this city is at the top of my list. There’s seriously so much to like about this place, from white sand beaches, beautiful parks, lively nightlife, friendly people, and fantastic restaurants. The city’s waterfront parks, such as Vinoy Park and North Shore Park, provide stunning views of Tampa Bay, and St. Petersburg’s downtown area is dotted with trendy boutiques, cozy cafes, and hip bars. The weather is perfect for someone who’s not a fan of winter (like me) and St. Petersburg is a sought-after destination for outdoor enthusiasts and beach lovers alike. I have nothing but love for “The Sunshine City.”
